WHEE IN “WATER COLOR” REVIEW

Yesterday, Wheein finally released her first mini album, Redd. The music video for the title track, water color, was released as well.

I was wondering when Wheein would have her solo release. All last year, each of the other Mamamoo members had their own solos, so  I knew it was only a matter of time before Wheein had hers.

Though this is not her first solo, this is her first full solo project.  I’m a fan of Mamamoo, but I feel as though Wheein is the member I know the least about. She’s not as active as the other members on social media, so you don’t really get to hear a lot from her unless it’s time for a Mamamoo comeback. I was really excited to learn a little bit more about Wheein’s unique style with this release.

water color is an electronic and funky mix. It begins immediately with this groovy, bouncy, and distorted tune. It’s fuelled by a bass guitar and clapping beat. It’s still and steady until we reach the second half of the chorus. There we are introduced to an electronic drop. It’s pretty infectious and does well in adding an extra lively element to the song.

Though there was nothing that particularly stood out to me within the song itself, Wheein more than made up for it with her vocals and performance. If you’re a Mamamoo fan you would know that Wheein has an incredible voice. Her voice is easily the highlight of the song.

water color is a song that you can’t help but bounce along with. Its infectious energy steadily rises and keeps you interested. Wheein’s performance is captivating and truly the song’s strongest point.

Song Rating: 4/5
